Homeless suspect taken into custody after attacking three people on Santa Monica beach

According to Santa Monica Police, a suspect is in custody after multiple assaults occurred at two lifeguard towers north of the Santa Monica Pier on Monday.

According to police, the attacks on the three unrelated victims occurred around 9:45 a.m. A bystander was injured when he tried to intervene during the attack on an elderly woman, and a 17-year-old was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to SMPD, the suspect is a homeless man who is unknown to police. No weapons were used in the attacks.
