Canned coffee recalled due to potentially deadly botulinum toxin – Action News Jax

The Food and Drug Administration has announced the voluntary recall of all Snapchill L canned coffee products due to possible botulinum toxin.

The recall is known to the Federal Drug and Food Administration. The problem was discovered when the FDA informed Snapchill that the process for manufacturing the recalled low-acid canned food products had not been submitted to the agency.

The FDA stated that the botulinum toxin was botulism. Botulism is a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

According to the FDA, symptoms include:

  • General weakness
  • dizziness
  • Double vision
  • Problems speaking or swallowing
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Weakness of other muscles
  • Flatulence
  • constipation

Symptoms can appear between six hours and two weeks after consuming the toxin-containing food.

No illnesses were reported.

The canned coffee was sold at several coffee roasters and retailers across the country, according to the FDA. The cans range in size from 7 to 12 oz. Under the nutritional panel, it says “Manufactured and distributed by Snapchill LLC.”

If you have one of these products, the FDA recommends destroying it, returning it to Snapchill, or returning the product to where you purchased it for a refund. Snapchill will require a receipt and a photo of the product(s) before you destroy them for a full refund.
