Sick pedophile lied about his age and raped sleeping girl

A paedophile lied about his age and told one of his teenage victims he wanted to have a baby with her. David Williams carried out the vicious attacks when his victims were just 14 years old.

Swansea Crown Court was told that Williams, now 43, began befriending young girls when he was in his mid-20s. Judge Paul Thomas KC said the defendant targeted a girl when she was 14 and vulnerable due to her family circumstances.

He said Williams, of Afon Wen, Aberarth, Aberaeron, lied to the girl about her age and raped her on one occasion. He later befriended another 14-year-old girl, who the judge also described as “very vulnerable”, and who he raped on one occasion in her sleep.

In a victim impact statement, Williams’ first victim said she “feels like she never got over her childhood traumas”, adding that Williams lied about his age and told her he was 22. She said he abused her from a position of trust and told her it “wouldn’t be long before she could have a baby”. She said that was never something she wanted. She said her experiences had taken her confidence to “rock bottom” and she turned to alcohol and drugs to cope, including heroin. She said to this day she cannot cope with hearing songs she remembers him playing and she has been diagnosed with PTSD.

Williams’ second victim said she was also 14 when he raped her and had self-harmed as a result of those experiences, but she only connected those feelings with what he had done to her afterwards. She said her anxiety had increased since telling police about Williams and she had had trouble sleeping as a result of the incident. Williams was discovered after a victim came forward, sparking a police investigation that also involved working with Interpol and Portuguese authorities. A second victim was identified and Williams was charged with two counts of rape and two counts of sexual conduct with a child. He denied the allegations but was convicted at trial at Swansea Crown Court in May this year.

Judge Thomas described Williams as “immature” and said he used his victims as his “sexual playthings”. He added: “The impact of your act on their lives is all too clear. It has deeply affected them in many ways and they are still suffering the consequences of what you did to them years later.”

He described the defendant’s performance in the witness box during the trial as “dismal” and said it demonstrated a continued lack of maturity. While acknowledging that Williams was involved with the child protection charity Lucy Faithfull Foundation and had not committed any sexual offences since the convictions, he said the defendant had shown “no public remorse” and denied the allegations. Williams has a previous conviction for which he served 32 months.

Williams was sentenced to 16 years in prison, two-thirds of which must be served before he is eligible for parole, and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order was imposed.

After the hearing, Sam Gregory, Detective Inspector of Dyfed-Powys Police, said: “I would like to thank the victims for their courage and strength throughout the investigation. Williams is a sexual predator who had no regard for his victims, who were children.”

“I hope this case serves as an inspiration to others who are afraid to speak out against abusers. We would urge anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence to come forward and get the support they deserve.” Dyfed-Powys Police were unable to provide a mugshot of Williams.
