2 men arrested for stealing ATMs from several Suffolk shops

Police say two men have been arrested for breaking into several stores in Suffolk County and stealing ATMs.

After an investigation, police said John Mahoney and Jamie Volini were arrested for a series of commercial burglaries and an attempted burglary between March 5 and March 11.

During the break-ins, the men broke into closed gas stations and shops by opening doors and windows and damaged or stole the ATMs.

Volini was found by police at the intersection of Sills Road and Montauk Highway and taken into custody Tuesday. Mahoney was arrested without incident outside his home in Mastic Beach.

According to police, Volini and Mahoney were arrested for the following incidents:

• Mobil Gas, Portion Road, Holtsville, attempted to open the ATM unsuccessfully at 2:56 a.m. March 6.

• On March 6 at 3:24 a.m., they entered the 7-Eleven store on Portion Road in Ronkonkoma and stole the ATM.

• On March 11, sometime during the night, they damaged the back door of the Ronkonkoma Deli on Veterans Memorial Highway, but were unable to gain entry.

Additionally, Mahoney was charged with third-degree burglary for the following incidents:

• On March 5 at 12:42 a.m., he removed the ATM from the Blue Moon Beer and Smoke Shop on Main Street in Holbrook.

• On March 8 at approximately 3:50 a.m., at Abdi Card and Smoke Shop on Montauk Highway in East Patchogue, he attempted to steal an ATM from the store.

• Pupuseria Y Taqueria Grocery and Deli, Montauk Highway, Shirley, on March 8. At some point during the night, he broke into the ATM and stole the money.

Volini, 46, of East Patchogue, was charged with two counts of burglary, attempted burglary and illegal possession of a controlled substance.

Mahoney, 41, of Mastic, was charged with five counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary.
