First weather alert day: Storms possible on Thursday

Strong to severe storms are possible on Thursday.

So far it has been a quiet storm season for us. We need to be alert to the possibility of strong to severe storms tonight, Thursday and even Friday in some counties. Not everyone may see a storm and there is a possibility of a storm developing at times throughout the ENC. Currently, Thursday appears to have the best chance for a few storms with a chance of wind or hail. A series of storms could develop this morning, and a few more could develop throughout the afternoon into the evening on Thursday.

Storms are possible early Thursday. A few more could develop throughout the day.

While Thursday is the best chance, we will need to monitor the development of storms across the state later this evening. We can’t rule out a storm or two moving across the state since it’s so hot and humid. A cold front will arrive on Friday, ending the storm threat for many locations. We need to keep an eye on our southern and coastal counties such as Duplin, Onslow, Pender, Jones and Carteret for the possibility of further storms late Friday. Wind and hail are again the main concerns. Have the option to receive alerts for the next 48 hours just in case! We’ll have more on air and on the WITN weather app.

The risk of storms could remain on Friday.
