Accident leaves woman dead and teenager seriously injured





Gainesville, Missouri – A woman was killed and a teenager was seriously injured in a collision with a cow.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report, the accident occurred on June 17, 2024, at 9:58 p.m., 6 miles northwest of Gainesville. Holly Cooke, 31, was driving a 1998 Lincoln Town Car south on Highway 5 when the vehicle struck a cow stuck in the roadway. Cooke was fatally injured in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 10-year-old male passenger was critically injured and taken by air ambulance to Mercy Children’s Hospital in Springfield.

This is the 11th death in Troop G in 2024, compared to 14 in the same period last year.

The crash was investigated by Sergeant LS Elliott of Troop G.
