Two minors and an 18-year-old arrested in shooting on Henry Street

WILMINGTON – Suspects in a Saturday night shooting on Henry Street are in police custody and have been charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors.

James Butler, an 18-year-old resident of Wilmington, was charged with:

  • 11 cases of firing a firearm into an occupied dwelling
  • Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Aggravated possession of a stolen firearm
  • Discharge from a housing
  • Serious criminal conspiracy

Two minors were also arrested in connection with the case.

Butler is currently being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Detention Center on $3 million bail. Wilmington police have obtained a security detention order for the other two juvenile suspects.

Wilmington Police were notified of the shooting through their ShotSpotter system, a gunshot detection technology network, and conducted a traffic stop in the area of ​​the 400 block of Henry Street, successfully identifying the suspect vehicle.

Two firearms were found in the vehicle and officers noted property damage at the scene; however, no injuries were reported.
