Meerut woman drugged and raped by Instagram boyfriend and accomplice in Shamli; case registered

A woman was allegedly raped by two men after being served a cold drink laced with sedatives at a hotel in Shamli district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. In her complaint, the woman, a resident of Meerut, said she had befriended a man on Instagram who claimed to work at a bank. The woman said the man offered to help her get a job at the bank.

According to news agency IANS, the accused allegedly sent his friend and asked the woman to come with him to Dehradun promising her a job. However, he did not meet her there. Later, the man’s accomplice sent her to Thanabhavan in Shamli district where she met the accused.

The woman claimed that the men gave her a cold drink with sedatives and then took her to a hotel where they raped her. Following the woman’s complaint, the police have launched an investigation into the case.

In another incident in Delhi, a 16-year-old boy allegedly sexually abused a seven-year-old girl. The victim’s grandmother alleged that the minor boy sexually abused the girl at his house in Lodhi Colony. The police filed a complaint against the boy and arrested him.

According to police, they received a PCR call about the incident on June 9, following which a team rushed to Meharchand market, where the seven-year-old victim was found with her grandmother. The victim’s grandmother narrated the entire incident to the police and claimed that her neighbour had sexually abused her granddaughter in his house three to four days ago.

In another incident this month, a man was sentenced to death by a Nagpur court for raping and murdering a five-year-old girl in 2019. Sanjay Puri, 32, was sentenced to death by District Judge and Extraordinary Justice SR Padwal under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 376(A)(B) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Special Public Prosecutor Prashant Kumar Sathianathan said.

According to reports, the girl’s body with severe head injuries was found on December 6, 2019, in a farmland in Linga village of Kalmeshwar tehsil, where she lived with her parents, who were labourers.
