First weather warning: Yellow warning due to long-lasting heat wave

ROCHESTER, NY — The beautiful weather we’ve had this weekend is coming to an end in western New York State. A large area of high pressure will anchor itself off the East Coast, which is the perfect recipe for oppressive weather this time of year.

It will be the combination of significantly higher temperatures and increasing humidity that will create difficult conditions for any outdoor activities this week. Record high temperatures could be reached over the next four days, and for the Rochester area, this could be the hottest weather since 2020. For that reason, News 10NBC will maintain the yellow alert for at least Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. But the heat will set in as early as Monday. Remember, there are some simple tips to deal with this oppressive weather. Drink plenty of water, avoid the sun, try to stay in the air-conditioned environment as much as possible, never leave children or animals in your car, and check on the elderly as they are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

Sunday night will see clear skies at times. The low will be around 18 degrees. Monday will be mostly sunny with only a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms. The high will be around 33 degrees. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be hazy, hot and humid. Again, there is only a slight chance of thunderstorms. The temperature on all three days will be between 33 and 35 degrees, with the possibility of record highs. The heat index (a combination of temperature and humidity) will be at or above 38 degrees at times. Significant relief is not likely to occur until next weekend.
