Report: Harvey Weinstein appeals sexual assault conviction in California court

Disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein appealed his conviction for sexual assault in California.

According to The Hill, Weinstein’s lawyers filed an appeal with California’s Second Circuit on Friday.

The lawyers argued that their client “stands wrongfully convicted of sexually abusing Jane Doe 1.”

Weinstein was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault in Los Angeles in 2022 and later sentenced to 16 years in prison.

This appeal comes after a New York court overturned Weinstein’s 2020 conviction for sexual assault and rape in April of this year.

The The New York Court of Appeals ruled in a 4-3 decision that Weinstein was not granted a fair trial.

The court said some of the women who testified had made allegations against Weinstein that were unrelated to the charges at issue in the case.
