First warning day NC | Level 1 weather warning on Thursday could bring strong thunderstorms and destructive winds in the triangle

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – Thursday is declared the first warning day with risk level 1 for parts of the triangle.

ABC11 meteorologist Don Schwenneker said the Hazard Level 1 comes with the possibility of severe storms in the afternoon. Most of the day will be hot and humid, with temperatures rising to just above 80 degrees.

There may be isolated storms in the afternoon. The northern part of the ABC11 viewing area has the highest chance of seeing these storms. However, any developing storms can bring damaging winds and heavy downpours.

Overall, there is a 50 percent chance of rain on Thursday. Any storms should subside by Thursday evening as the axis of instability shifts eastward.

Fans traveling to the Soccer Tournament (TST) should bring rain gear and be aware that games may be postponed due to severe weather.

Thunderstorm warning vs. thunderstorm warning

A severe weather warning is issued when severe thunderstorms are possible in or near the warning area. This does not mean that they will occur. It just means that they are possible.

A severe weather warning is issued when severe thunderstorms occur or are imminent in the warning area.

looking ahead

Temperatures will still be quite warm on Friday, with highs around 30 degrees. The good news is that humidity will drop as the dew point drops to just over 10 degrees.

Expect similar conditions for the first half of the weekend, with heat and humidity returning on Sunday afternoon, bringing back summer feelings. Highs will only be just above 30 degrees, though – dew points around 10 degrees will make it uncomfortable, especially for early June.

There may be a shower or two in some areas late Sunday.

Next week sunshine and warm weather until midweek.
