Roman Bilinski will miss this weekend’s Formula Regional European Championship races in Zandvoort after being hospitalised following a road accident.

On Thursday afternoon, Bilinski wrote on Instagram: “Hello everyone. I am very sorry to miss the race in Zandvoort this weekend due to a road accident. Thank you to all the medical staff at #OspedaleNuovoLegnano for the great support ❤️”

The post was accompanied by a photo showing him in a hospital bed two days before the start of the Zandvoort circuit. He did not specify when or where the road accident occurred, nor the severity of his injuries or how long his recovery is expected to take. Many of his rivals were quick to wish him well and left comments on the post.

With no replacement driver announced yet, this means the Trident team will only field Niko Lacorte and Ruiqi Liu this weekend.

Bilinski is ninth overall with 20 points after the first four races. He began the season with a ninth place at Hockenheim, then took a pole position and achieved a second place at the final race at Spa-Francorchamps.

Two weeks after Zandvoort, the fourth round of the season takes place at the Hungaroring, with the championship heading to Mugello three weeks later. Bilinski needs to score just four points to better his tally from last season on his return to the cockpit, and expectations for the 20-year-old Pole have increased this year, having won the 2024 FRegional Oceania title.
