Buffalo, New York’s new tax will be third highest in America

This would be the 3rd highest tax in the country.

The city of Buffalo will start taxing people who book a hotel stay in Buffalo. This will be a 5% tax per room. For example, if you book a hotel room for $300, you’ll pay an extra $15. This is not included in sales tax. This is a completely different line item on your receipt.

This is not a new concept in major cities across the country. If you go to Nashville, you will now pay 7% on top of their local sales tax. They were one of the first cities to implement this tax. At the time, Nashville was trying to supplement the cost of the new convention center by charging people who stayed in and/or visited Music City.

• However, the 5% tax in the City of Buffalo will not occur in 2024.
• Somehow they made mistakes and won’t get approved on time when the budget is due.
• The gap would leave more than $4 million because the bed tax will not be implemented on time.

(They) urged council members to work with the mayor’s office and find new ways to increase revenue or reduce spending in the city rather than only objecting when the administration proposes something.” , according to WGRZ.
