Man, 62, suffers life-threatening injuries in stabbing in Cape Cod

Massachusetts authorities are investigating a stabbing on Cape Cod in which a man suffered serious injuries in an apparent domestic violence incident, according to police. Barnstable police said they received multiple 911 calls around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday about a 62-year-old man who was stabbed multiple times at a home on Old Stage Road in Centerville. When officers arrived at the scene, they identified and arrested a 24-year-old man who was known to the victim as a suspect. He was taken into custody. The stabbing victim was flown by medical helicopter to a Rhode Island hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries, police said. Barnstable police said the suspect was being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Barnstable District Court on charges of armed assault with intent to commit murder; Assault and assault on a person over 60; and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60 years of age. Authorities said the stabbing was not random and the incident is being investigated by Barnstable Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office. The section of Old Stage Road from Great Marsh to Shoot Flying Hill roads remained closed to traffic late Tuesday evening. Residents in the area told NewsCenter 5 reporter Mary Saladna reported that a young man who came out of a house with a knife in his hand was arrested by police officers who charged at him with guns drawn. “Get down!” And then they kept shouting: ‘Drop the knife! Drop the knife,’” said Frances Tenney of Centerville. “He didn’t drop it and the next thing we heard was a bang. We didn’t know what it really was. The boy simply went to the ground with a knife before taking him into custody. Witnesses also said a Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority driver stopped their bus to help an elderly man who was bleeding on the ground.
