One person arrested after six-hour standoff in Cherokee County

Man arrested in connection with weekend shooting in Taylors

CHEROKEE COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – One person was arrested Tuesday following a six-hour standoff that began Monday evening in Cherokee County.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to a home on Monroe Street in Gaffney around 9:37 p.m. Monday for a report of shots fired outside the home.

At the residence, officers said they were told the shooter was drunk and they saw bullet casings on the porch of the house.

The suspect, Zsazhamar Jericho Davis, allegedly made death threats to several officers. When he learned he was being arrested, Davis allegedly locked himself in his home and demanded that officers arrest him.

The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and negotiators were called to the house to force Davis to surrender. Six hours later, the SWAT team used gas inside the house to force Davis to surrender and arrest him.

A search warrant revealed that several weapons and ammunition were located in the house. Davis was charged with using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, threatening to kill a public official, resisting law enforcement and disturbing the peace.

Following the standoff, Davis was reportedly given a breathalyzer test and the sheriff’s office said his blood alcohol level was 0.24%, three times the legal limit.

He was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he remains in custody.
