‘He’s not lying,’ WNBA fans say after Warriors star Draymond Green speaks out on controversial Caitlin Clark incident

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has expressed his opinion on the controversial shove against Indiana Fever defender Caitlin Clark.

The Fever fought their way to their first home win of the WNBA season on Saturday, beating the Chicago Sky 72-71.

However, the game was ultimately overshadowed by a controversial incident in the third period.

After scoring a goal, Sky guard Chenney Carter went straight to Clark, who was waiting for a throw-in.

Carter came from behind, immediately ran into Clark and forced her to the ground.

Carter then walked off the court while Fever center Aliyah Boston came over to help her teammate get up.

The incident was ruled a foul and Clark subsequently made the free throw, but no further action was taken.

“This is not just a basketball play,” Clark told ESPN.

“But you know, you have to play through it. That’s what basketball at this level is all about.”

After the game, Carter refused to discuss the incident, saying simply, “I’m not answering questions from Caitlin Clark.”

Clips of the incident, as well as Clark and Carter’s comments, quickly spread like wildfire on social media.

Among those voicing their opinion was Green, who said on Instagram: “Indiana better invest in an enforcer… and fast!”

Green’s comment then made its way to X, formerly Twitter, where fans largely agreed with the four-time NBA champion.

“He’s not lying,” said one fan.

“My boy gave me superhero level advice,” commented a second.

“Facts. Her teammates stood there not helping her,” another added.

And a fourth replied: “As an enforcer of his team, he knows what he is saying.”

Fever head coach Christie Sides called on the WNBA to take action after the game.

“We’re just going to continue to communicate those possessions and plays to the league and hopefully they’ll start to take a closer look at some of the things we see happening,” she said.

“I’m just even happier that Caitlin handled it that way.

“It’s hard to be under the pressure they were under all the time and not be rewarded with free throws or just a foul.”

But Sides wasn’t done yet, later tweeting: “This is unacceptable @wnba. When will the constant complaints finally be heard?!?”

“Something must be done!”

Next up for Indiana is a trip to New York to face the Liberty on Sunday before taking a break until they travel to face the Washington Mystics on June 7.
