22-year-old man sentenced to 21 years in prison for raping 15-year-old girl, Sacramento prosecutor says

A Sacramento Superior Court judge on Friday sentenced a 22-year-old man to 21 years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl after she refused to have sex with him, prosecutors said.

Judge Delbert Oros also ordered Kemoni Tobin to register as a sex offender for life because of the sexual assault, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release Monday.

On November 5, 2021, the 15-year-old girl met another teenager. Tobin, who was 20 at the time, was also there.

The three went to the other teen’s apartment, where the 15-year-old girl was left alone with Tobin. Prosecutors said the girl refused to have sex with Tobin, after which “he sexually assaulted and forcibly raped her.”

The sexual assault was reported to law enforcement and she was placed under investigation. Prosecutors said subsequent lab tests confirmed that traces of Tobin’s DNA were found during the investigation.

On January 31, a jury found Tobin guilty of sexual abuse of a victim 14 years of age or older, rape of a minor 14 years of age or older, and unlawful sexual intercourse with a victim more than three years younger.

According to prosecutors, at the time of the sexual assault trial, Tobin was already serving a four-year prison sentence for a previous conviction for pimping and procuring. His 21-year sentence will begin once he completes his four-year sentence.
