Buffalo Bills sign former gold medalist

The interesting moves continue for the Buffalo Bills this offseason as they announced that they will be signing a former Olympic gold medalist.

First, they made a lot of cuts to get under the cap. Then they traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. Then they completely dropped out of the first round of the NFL Draft. Today they continued the “wow, I didn’t expect them to do that” trend by signing a former Olympic gold medalist who has never downplayed football.

Who is the gold medalist the Bills are signing?

His name is Gable Steveson and his entire sporting career he has been a wrestler. He’s a 6′ 1″, 275 pound wrestler who never put on cleats before joining the Bills during a recent rookie mini-camp.

However, he was one of the most dominant wrestlers in the NCAA.

If he never played football, why are the Bills signing him?

This will be a valid question from anyone who sees this story. Why recruit this guy if he has no football experience?

The answer is that he still needs to be on the team. They expect him to be a depth player if he can rotate with players like DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver. They sign it, but for now it’s just an extended trial. If he doesn’t get it back in time, it doesn’t matter, they cut him off and move on. But if he’s half as much a footballer as he is a wrestler, they’ll look like geniuses.

He is the second player on the roster to have never minimized a down

Steveson will be the second Bills player to sign with the Bills this season after never downplaying football. They also have a former rugby player named Travis Clayton who came to them via the International Player Pathway.
