Palo Alto police are searching for suspects in connection with two morning break-ins into occupied homes that occurred earlier this week. In one break-in, a side door is believed to have been forced open.

The first burglary occurred on May 28 in the 100 block of Seale Avenue, a news release said. A resident who rents a room in the back of the house reportedly went outside through the side door that connects to a room she lives in. Police said the resident, a woman in her 60s, returned a short time later. About an hour later, she found the door open and it appeared to have been forced open from the outside, police said.

Police said she did not hear anyone in her home and nothing appeared to be missing. She told police she believed the burglar heard her inside and fled, the release said. Police believe the break-in occurred between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.

The second burglary occurred on May 29 between 7 and 8 a.m. in the 1100 block of Palo Alto Avenue. A woman who lives in the house reported that about a minute later, she heard the front door open and close.

The resident, a woman in her 30s, then noticed her wallet and cell phone were no longer on the chair next to the front door, police said. She then went outside and saw various items from her wallet lying on the sidewalk near the intersection of Palo Alto Avenue and Chaucer Street. Nothing else was stolen, police said.

The suspects in both cases are at large and police have no evidence linking the two incidents, the press release said.
