Suspect had meth and marijuana, West Burlington police allege

An Ottumwa man was in custody Tuesday after police said he had methamphetamine and marijuana, according to a news release.

On Sunday, West Burlington police saw a vehicle traveling north with its headlights off in the 400 block of West Burlington Avenue.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 400 block of East Wheeler. During the traffic stop, K9 Maverick was deployed to sniff the vehicle outside. After the dog alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics, a search of the vehicle was conducted.

Officers found methamphetamine and marijuana in the vehicle, the release said.

The passenger, Kevin Ross of Ottumwa, was found to be in possession of the narcotics. Ross was arrested and taken to the Des Moines County Correctional Facility.

Ross is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance – third offense.

The West Burlington Police Department was assisted by the Burlington Police Department, the release said.
