Mother of Atlanta jail sexual assault victim speaks out after police officer’s arrest – WSB-TV Channel 2

GRIFFIN, Georgia – A Spalding County detention officer was arrested after authorities say he sexually assaulted an inmate.

The arrest came after a Spalding County Jail inmate reported to staff that Deputy Detention Officer Quentin M. Morgan, 22, had entered his room and attacked him.

Michael Doudna from Channel 2 was live on WSB Tonight at 11pm on Wednesday, where he spoke with the mother of the attack victim.

Judy Freeman’s emotions are still fresh.

“I’m hurt, I’m angry and I’m frustrated,” Freeman said after her son was allegedly sexually abused by a deputy who was sworn to protect and serve him. “He’s humiliated and hurt. And if he’s suffering as a parent, it’s going to hurt you too.”

According to court documents, Deputy Quentin Morgan first showed an inmate a personal, inappropriate sex video before later returning to his cell and forcing him to perform oral sex.

“I just started crying,” Freeman said.

Spalding County says Morgan confessed to everything after collecting video evidence and conducting interviews.

“But when you talk about a law enforcement officer, that makes me so angry. This is someone who is supposed to serve you and protect you,” she said.

And the family wonders whether the 22-year-old should have been employed here at all.

According to records, Morgan was originally hired to work at the Coweta County Jail last November but was fired in March of this year for failing to meet performance standards.

But a month later, he was rehired here in Spalding County.

LATEST STORIES:

“I don’t understand. If he was fired from one district, how can he work in another district?” Freeman asked.

Spalding County did not respond to a question about why Morgan was hired, but said it immediately launched an investigation after learning of the incident.

“He broke the law; he will be held accountable and face the consequences,” Darrell Dix said in a statement.

“You start crying because there’s nothing you can do as a mother,” Freeman said.

On Friday, Morgan was released, arrested and booked into the Spalding County Jail. He is being held without bail.
