More storms heading towards the Houston area | NewsRadio 740 KTRH

Two weeks after a storm knocked out power to 900,000 CenterPoint customers, the Houston area is once again in the spotlight.

You can follow the radar HERE.

This comes from Eric Berger of Space City Weather:

A line of severe storms is expected to impact much of the greater Houston area this afternoon. Please be weather aware when venturing out between now and approximately 5 p.m. CT.

As of midday, a strong line of thunderstorms has formed near College Station and Huntsville, and it is expected to move steadily south this afternoon. The time of greatest concern for the Houston metro area will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., as the system pushes into central parts of the city and up to the coast. Not all of Houston will experience severe weather, but much of the metro area will likely be affected.

Please note that, at this time, we are not expecting the derecho weather that Houston experienced approximately 10 days ago. However, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms, which includes the usual threats.

In terms of precipitation, I expect much of the area to receive 1-3 inches, but as these storms move toward Houston, they could slow down somewhat due to interaction with the breeze Navy of the Gulf of Mexico. In this case, we could see isolated higher totals of 4 inches or more of precipitation. As for hail, I think a high end size would be ping pong ball sized hail. Straight-line winds could reach up to 60 mph. It is also possible that we may see a few isolated tornadoes.
