Kidnapping suspect arrested after long chase from Inland Empire to San Diego County

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KABC) – A man accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her against her will for two weeks was arrested Saturday after a lengthy chase through Southern California.

Lorenzo Isaiah Haynes, 29, of San Diego, was arrested when the pursuit ended in Escondido.

According to investigators, Haynes held the victim against her will for two weeks and forced her to perform numerous sexual acts “through fear and coercion in several counties in Southern California.”

“If she was a victim of human trafficking, we certainly have more to find out, but fortunately he is no longer on the streets,” said SBCSD spokeswoman Gloria Huerta.

The 31-year-old victim somehow managed to escape Saturday night and called 911 from a supermarket near Riverside Drive and East End Avenue in Chino.

“When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim, but also observed the suspect driving in the area,” Huerta said. “When our officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the suspect failed to yield and a chase ensued.”

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy was injured during the chase when he collided with another car. He was taken to a local hospital and later released.

The pursuit then continued south into San Diego County.

“His vehicle was broken down and he fled on foot,” Huerta said. “He was apprehended shortly thereafter, turned over to us and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.”

Haynes faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, rape, human trafficking, pimping and obstructing police. Detectives say the relationship between Haynes and the victim – how they met – remains unclear.

The sheriff’s department said Haynes was on probation at the time of his arrest, which prohibits his release on bail.
