Man charged with attempted murder

A man faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly attacking strangers with a knife in Deep Cove on Saturday, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in North Vancouver.

The Mounties say officers received reports of a man allegedly attacking cars with a knife near Mount Seymour Parkway and Deep Cover Road shortly after 3 p.m. Police say the man then apparently attacked a man on a motorcycle and struck his helmet, “but did not cause any injuries.”

The Mounties said they were able to arrest the man when they arrived at the scene, but claim he also assaulted a police officer while in custody.

“The quick action of our officers led to the safe arrest of the suspect. We would like to thank the quick action of a passing motorist who assisted the motorcyclist by pulling him to safety,” Const. Mansoor Sahak said in a statement on Monday.

“For some, hearing this story may bring back memories of past trauma. If you are experiencing emotional distress, please seek support. Our Victim Assistance Unit is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 604-969-7540. We want you to know that we are here for you, we are listening, and we support you,” Sahak added.

Alexander Currie of North Vancouver has now been charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, threats, criminal damage, assault on a police officer and possession of a weapon. Currie’s next court date is scheduled for Monday.
