Deadly shooting near Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival

A man and a girl were shot on Saturday evening. They were taken to a hospital, where the child died of his injuries. Police are still looking for suspects.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A man and a girl were shot Saturday night near the summer carnival at Mount Trashmore Park, Virginia Beach police said. The girl died of her injuries.

The shooting was reported just after 8:30 p.m. Police said it did not occur at the fair itself, but was close enough for emergency responders and police to arrive quickly and render aid. Both victims were taken to the hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead.

Police described the shooting as a “chaotic scene.” Officers are working to direct traffic and are “locating suspects.”

So far, neither the ages nor names of the victims have been released, nor is there any information about what might have led to the shooting.

Police told 13News Now that they are continuing to search for suspects and evidence and that the crime scene remains busy.

The Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival opened Friday night and was scheduled to run through June 19.
