Investigation underway into police-involved shooting in East Alton | MyStateline

EAST ALTON, Ill. (WTVO) – Illinois State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in East Alton.

On May 23 at approximately 11:31 p.m., East Alton police responded to a shooting call in the 200 block of Lakeside Avenue. According to ISP, officers were exiting their vehicles when they were shot at from inside the residence.


Officers said they fired back and the suspect barricaded himself inside the house. Authorities called the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) and the Special Response Team (SRT) for assistance.

SRT found the suspect inside the home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. None of the officers were injured in the incident.

On May 24, the Madison County Coroner performed an autopsy on the body of 47-year-old Shannon Musgraves and determined that the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The ISP’s investigation is ongoing and no further information is available.
