Family still searching for answers after 17-year-old was shot dead this month

A family is searching for answers after their beloved teenager was shot and killed earlier this month. “They said a man was killed. And I thought to myself, this is a young man, 17. He’s had his whole life,” said Julie Nelson. On May 1, Shawntae’Veion Bullitt, affectionately known as Tavievion, was shot and killed on the corner of 28th Street and Garland Avenue around 4 p.m. “I am beyond my pain. I’ve cried enough. I’m angry now. I’m very angry,” Nelson said. Nelson, his grandmother, is still trying to come to terms with his murder and wants answers as to who pulled the trigger and killed Tae’Veion. “This was my first murder and this person just took my grandson away from me,” Nelson said. She said it feels like a living nightmare. “My grandson isn’t coming back. I was by his coffin the entire funeral service and when they closed the coffin I knew he was gone. I’ll never see him again,” Nelson said. According to Nelson, he was in state custody after experiencing some difficulties and she said she thought he would get the help he needed. Now she hopes other children like him don’t become victims of gun violence. “Give these children help. They scream for it. Give it to them,” Nelson said. Even though the wheels of justice have not yet turned for this family, they hope an arrest will be made for a life taken too soon. “He wanted to live his life like you and me, you know, but a blink of an eye, a blink of an eye and his life is over,” Nelson said. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via the anonymous crime tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
