A Lehi High School teacher was taken to a hospital Friday afternoon after injuring himself during a class assignment.

In an emailed statement to the Daily Herald, the Alpine School District called it “an unfortunate and tragic accident.” Officials did not provide specific details about what led to the injury, but confirmed that no students were injured.

Lehi police and firefighters responded to the incident at the school early Friday afternoon. The teacher was flown to care in a rescue helicopter. School district officials did not provide any information about the teacher or his condition, other than to say the teacher remains hospitalized.

The district said it notified parents of the incident and offered support services and crisis counseling to students struggling with what they saw.

In its statement, the district said:

“During this difficult time, we extend our deepest concern to the teacher and his family. We are grateful that no students were injured in the accident and appreciate the quick and professional response of the Lehi Fire Department and Police Department. We continue to work with our first responder partners to ensure our school community is safe and informed.”
