Police release update on arrests after rape of teenager in forest

A man arrested after allegedly raping a teenage girl in woodland in Irlam has been released on bail, police confirmed.

Police said they had received reports that the girl had been raped at around 4am yesterday morning (Sunday). The incident is said to have occurred in a wooded area near a footpath beside the Old Course of the River Irwell.




The sidewalk was cordoned off during the investigation throughout the day. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.

He was taken into custody and questioned by detectives. In an update released today (Monday), police said the man has since been released on bail pending further investigations.

The victim, whose age was not disclosed, is being cared for by specialist officers. In a statement released yesterday, GMP said: “At 4am this morning we received reports that a young girl had been raped in a wooded area near the River Irwell Old Course in Irlam.”

“She is being supported by specially trained officers. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.

“He remains in police custody for questioning.”
