Washington Commanders to trade Terry McLaurin to Houston Texans

via sports.yahoo.com

The NFL offseason brings its fair share of predictions and bold positions. This is especially true with trades that could happen before the season or the deadline. With that in mind, Terry McLaurin becomes an interesting trade option that has the potential to shake up the league. If he is traded, it will be to the Houston Texans.

The Texans traded Stefon Diggs last offseason. The goal of the Diggs trade is to surround CJ Stroud with as much receiver help as possible. A core of receivers like Diggs, Tank Dell and Nico Collins is a good thing, but a lot of that success relies on Diggs being able to pick up his production after a few rough games late last season. With Diggs being 30, there’s a chance he could start to regress, and the Texans can’t take that risk.

McLaurin is a bit younger at 28, and with Washington’s new coaching staff, it wouldn’t be too outlandish to see him traded to acquire more draft capital. Especially with McLaurin set to be a free agent after 2025 and commanding a top-tier salary, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Commanders to move on and start focusing on younger players in the receiving corps like Jahan Dotson and Luke McCaffrey.

With McLaurin, he brings 5,358 yards and 25 touchdowns to the Texans to balance out their offense and make it totally diverse. With McLaurin, he has been a consistent and reliable receiver with his receiving radius. Combine that with his speed, versatility and agility, and he becomes the perfect target for Stroud to count on.

The Texans are closer to contention, so this trade would give McLaurin the best chance at winning a ring. For the Commanders, it gives them a chance to continue building their future with a younger group of receivers and cap space to address bigger needs.
