2 men arrested for drug possession and drunkenness in public

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) – Cameron County Sheriff’s officials have arrested two men for possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication.

On July 24 at approximately 7:35 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding suspicious persons on the road and responded to the intersection of Avenida Rancho Viejo and Avenida Nina in Cameron Park.


The officers found the two men and upon contact found that both showed signs of intoxication and were under the influence of drugs.

The two men were identified as Diego Armando Bernal and Jose Montoya Olvera, a press release said.

During a body search, it was found that Bernal was in possession of a clear plastic bag containing Alprazolam tablets (Xanax).

Bernal explained that the pills did not belong to him and that he had only kept them for his friend Olvera.

Bernal was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 3.

He was taken to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center for arraignment.

Olvera was also arrested and charged with public intoxication.
