A 16-year-old girl was raped while on holiday in Greece after leaving her parents to go to the toilet

A British schoolgirl was raped in a bar while on holiday with her parents after going to the toilet.

The 16-year-old victim was on the Greek island of Crete when she was attacked on Wednesday. According to local reports, her family was at a bar in Malia when the teenager left her parents to go to the toilet.

Police on the holiday island have launched a manhunt to find her attacker. The girl and her mother later visited a local police station to report the crime, the Mirror reports.

Police reviewed video surveillance and believe they have identified her attacker as a 28-year-old man from Pakistan.

The Foreign Office was contacted for comment.

This comes after a British woman reported being gang raped while on holiday in Cyprus earlier this year.

The woman was gang-raped by five men after she was “forcibly dragged” into a hotel room in the Ayia Napa party resort. The tourist, who was 20 at the time of the alleged attack, was escorted under police protection to the Famagusta Criminal Court in February to testify behind closed doors.

It was the first time the Briton had come face to face with the men since the suspects were identified in a police line-up last September. A police officer said: “She is incredibly brave. She walked in with her head held high.”
