Four Peoria police officers are on leave pending the investigation into the shooting that left one man dead

Four Peoria police officers have been placed on leave pending an investigation into a shooting Sunday that left one man dead.

The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. in the 1800 block of West Sherman. Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria said when police went to execute an arrest warrant for violating a protection order, 46-year-old Donald Wilson fled into a garage, set a fire and began hitting officers with a shovel.

The chief said two officers used Tasers and one fired his weapon.

The investigation is being led by the Illinois State Police, as is standard practice for all shooting investigations involving law enforcement officers.
