Suspect arrested after shooting with life-threatening injuries in Salt Lake City

A 20-year-old man was arrested after he shot and seriously wounded another man in Salt Lake City, according to authorities.

Salt Lake City Police Department officials said the investigation began on Sunday, July 14, when dispatch received reports of a shooting near 1500 North Mandalay Road.

Upon arrival, police learned that the 27-year-old victim had been taken to the hospital.

The man’s condition was initially classified as life-threatening, but has since been updated to critical but stable.

Detectives from the SLCPD Gang Unit identified the suspected shooter as Abdiaziz Ibrahim.

On Thursday, July 18, detectives and members of the agency’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team were able to safely take Ibrahim into custody.

A court-ordered search warrant was executed at the suspect’s home in West Valley City, but no further details on the results were provided.

Ibrahim was remanded to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail without bail.

He faces several charges, including discharging a firearm with serious bodily harm, grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm as a Category 1 person.
