Israel bombs another UN-run school in Gaza, killing 17 people | News on the Israel-Palestine conflict

According to the Gaza Strip’s Civil Defense Authority, Israeli forces killed at least 17 people in an attack on a school housing displaced Palestinians in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

More than 80 people were injured in the attack on the United Nations-run Abu Oraiban school on Sunday. It is the fifth attack on a school used as an emergency shelter in eight days.

The Abu Oraiban school housed “thousands of displaced people,” said Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Palestinian Civil Defense, adding that most of the dead were women and children.

The Israeli military said its air force had “attacked a number of terrorists operating in the area of the UNRWA Abu Araban (Abu Oraiban) school building in Nuseirat.”

Israel has repeatedly bombed UN buildings, schools and refugee camps in designated safe zones. At least 90 people were killed on Saturday when Israel attacked areas in al-Mawasi that are considered a safe zone.

More than half, or 190, of the facilities run by the main aid agency in Gaza, UNRWA, have been bombed by the Israeli military – “some more than once”.

The European Union, France and Germany called for an investigation into the school strikes on Wednesday.
