4-year-old killed, 4 family members injured in targeted shooting in San Antonio, Texas: Sheriff

Authorities said 30 cartridges were found at the scene.

A 4-year-old girl was killed and four members of her family were injured after two gunmen fired a barrage of bullets into a Texas home in a targeted shootout, authorities said Thursday.

The shooting occurred Wednesday evening at a San Antonio apartment building and was captured on neighbors’ surveillance cameras, authorities said.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, a man and a woman in their 20s and their three children were shot at the residence. All five victims were transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition. The 4-year-old has since died from her injuries, Salazar said at a press conference on Thursday.

The other victims – including children ages 7 and 8 – are currently in stable condition, Salazar said.

The shooting occurred around 7:40 p.m. CT at a townhouse in the 6700 block of Windsor Hollow Drive.

In surveillance footage released by the sheriff’s office, two armed men could be seen pulling up next to the residence in a vehicle believed to be an Infiniti, Salazar said. They then run to the house and fire weapons resembling a Draco — a “small AK-47-type weapon” that fires a “devastating bullet,” Salazar said — before fleeing in the vehicle. Both wear ski masks.

Thirty rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene, Salazar said.

“This wasn’t a drive-by shooting where there was shooting from the street,” Salazar said. “They wanted to get out there, get up close and pour so much lead into the house that they would cause maximum damage. To make sure they killed someone.”

An adult was “miraculously” uninjured in the shooting, Salazar said. A second unit attached to the townhouse was not shot at, he said.

“I have no doubt that they were after the people in that house for some reason,” Salazar said.

Salazar said there were persons of interest in the shooting, but he could not provide further details.

“We’re pretty sure we’re onto them,” he said.

Salazar said they plan to file murder charges in the shooting.

The authorities do not assume that there is an immediate danger to the population, he said on Wednesday evening.

The organized crime group and the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division are investigating.
