Merle Haggard’s former Silverthorn Pizza & Pub destroyed by fire

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A restaurant at a Lake Shasta resort once owned by Bakersfield country music legend Merle Haggard was destroyed by fire Sunday night.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said the fire was reported at the Silverthorn Resort’s Pizza Pub around 10:30 p.m. Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish the blaze.

Haggard, who died in 2016, owned the Silverthorn for a time in the 1980s when he lived on a houseboat on Lake Shasta, and it became known among Redding-area fans as Haggard’s local stage.

Silverthorn’s owners said they have plans to rebuild.
