Conviction upheld in fatal crash that killed child in Union

JACKSON, Miss. (WTOK) – The Mississippi Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of a Neshoba County man found guilty of leaving the scene of a 2021 accident in Union that killed 2-year-old Nolan Norris.

Andrew Graham Winstead’s attorney had argued that the trial court erred in admitting a recorded confession obtained in violation of his right to counsel.

The appeals court agreed, but said the error was harmless given the other overwhelming testimony and physical evidence of Winstead’s guilt.

His 12-year prison sentence, with five years suspended, and five years of post-release supervision remain.
