Fatal car crash causes UW Tacoma to suspend some operations this week

A car accident caused a power outage across the entire University of Washington Tacoma campus Saturday morning, except for a few areas.

The university is suspending on-site operations from Monday to Saturday as it works with several authorities to find a solution to the outage. Remote operations will continue as far as possible.

According to the University of Tacoma, the accident caused severe damage to the electrical system in the Cragle parking lot on the University of Tacoma campus.

The single-vehicle crash, in which one person died, occurred in the area of ​​South 21st Street and Pacific Avenue in Tacoma, authorities said.

The accident was reported at 5:58 a.m., according to the Tacoma Fire Department. The Tacoma Public Utilities power outage map showed six customers in the area without power around 9 a.m., but power was restored Saturday afternoon. The outage was traced to a vehicle that damaged equipment.
