Metro Rail temporarily suspends above-ground operations

Starting Monday, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority’s Metro Rail will temporarily suspend its above-ground operations due to construction.

Due to construction work, operations will be suspended from Monday, July 8th to Thursday, July 11th and again from Saturday, July 20th to Thursday, July 29th.

The electrical system will be upgraded, along with major improvements to the track bed and overhead line. The goal is to improve the safety and reliability of the Metro Rail.

To minimize any inconvenience to passengers, the NFTA offers a shuttle service between the Allen Medical Campus and Canalside Station every 20 minutes.

“This work is part of our overall track renewal plan and is necessary to maintain the integrity and efficiency of our system,” said James Morrell, public transit director, in a statement. “We thank our passengers for their patience and understanding during this temporary disruption.”

Passengers are asked to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time for the journey.
