Shooting at southwest Houston taco truck worries neighbors

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A shocking murder outside a busy taco truck in southwest Houston has some neighbors concerned.

A 31-year-old man was shot and killed around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday while driving a truck on Richmond near Dunvale, according to the Houston Police Department.

His identity has not been released and the suspect has only been described by authorities as an unknown black male.

Surveillance video obtained by ABC13 shows a white car pulling into the Richmond parking lot just before the shooting. The car stops, then someone gets out and begins shooting at the victim.

No motive is known at this time.

The truck was occupied at the time of the shooting, which is common, according to people in the area.

“I’m here like every other day for tacos,” Tiera Johnson said. “This parking lot is always full.”

Jesse Chester lives nearby and told ABC13 he heard the shooting as it happened.

“This neighborhood is moving in a negative direction,” Chester said of the neighborhood.

Eyewitness News reviewed six months of crime reports from the Houston Police Department in the area. Those reports revealed one other homicide in the area during that time.

It happened in January.

On Wednesday, frequent visitors to the neighborhood said the morning shooting had put them on edge.

“It’s concerning,” Jefreshia Bell said. “I’m in this area quite a bit, so it’s extremely concerning.”
