Weather warning for extreme heat today

WICHITA, Kansas (KWCH) – Meteorologist Jake Dunne says last night’s storms are long gone and today is all about the heat. When you factor in the humidity, highs in the 100s will feel like 40 to 43 degrees and today is a Storm Group 12 weather warning day for extreme heat.

Showers and storms will hit Kansas again tonight. Heavy rains and heavy hail and damaging wind gusts are possible between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., especially along and north of Highway 50.

The weekend will be noticeably cooler as a cold front moves into Kansas Saturday morning. Expect highs in the 35s on Saturday and around 27s on Sunday, accompanied by a third wave of storms Saturday night, primarily along and south of I-70.

Looking ahead, high heat and humidity will return Monday and Tuesday, when temperatures will reach 100 degrees and the heat index will rise to 105 to 110 degrees. However, conditions will return to stormy and cooler Wednesday and July 4.
