Two Waterbury men charged after incident outside Southington Moe’s Restaurant

SOUTHINGTON, Connecticut (WTNH) – Two people have been charged after Southington police were called to a disturbance at a Moe’s Southwest Grill on June 20.

When police on site investigated the first call for help, they discovered a white BMW sedan parked in front of the store that matched the description of a vehicle with misregistration that an officer had missed weeks earlier.

As officers approached the vehicle to investigate, they made contact with 21-year-old Keon Mayes, the sole occupant. The Waterbury resident was arrested and a check confirmed the vehicle had been stolen in New York.

Shortly thereafter, 20-year-old Xavion McMillian of Waterbury approached the vehicle from inside Moe’s Southwest Grill. Police attempted to arrest McMillian and he began to flee on foot. After a short chase, he was arrested.

During the search of the vehicle, a rifle and an unregistered pistol were found.

Mayes was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, illegally selling a firearm and carrying weapons in a motor vehicle. He was held on $250,000 bail.

McMillion was charged with interference, first-degree theft, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle and misuse of license plates. He was held on $300,000 bail.

Both individuals were brought before New Britain Superior Court on June 21.
