13-year-old girl gang-raped and murdered; body found on Haridwar highway

A thirteen-year-old girl was found dead on a highway in Bahadrabad area near the Patanjali Research Centre on Tuesday morning. According to police, the girl had been missing for three days. On Wednesday, police said the girl’s mother had alleged that the minor was raped and then murdered by a local BJP worker and his partner.

Adityaraj Saini, a member of the local Bharatiya Janata Party (OBC Morcha), has been identified as the main accused, but a letter from BJP state general secretary Aditya Kothari said the party had expelled him from his basic membership on Tuesday following the discovery of the girl’s body.

The girl’s mother alleged that Adityaraj Saini was the husband of a village headman but was in a relationship with his daughter, who went missing on Sunday night. She told the police that she called her 13-year-old daughter and the former BJP worker told her that the girl was with him. In her complaint, she further mentioned that her daughter’s phone was switched off after that.

The mother further recalled that when her daughter returned home on Monday morning, she went to the house of the BJP worker, where the other accused, Amit Saini, also lived, but did not find her daughter.

The woman alleged that when she warned Saini not to take the matter to police, he threatened to kill her if she went to the police. However, the girl’s mother approached the police soon after and filed an official missing person report on Monday.

Following the complaint, police were able to recover the daughter’s body on Tuesday after the mother claimed that her daughter was raped and killed by Saini and his partner.

SP Pramendra Dobhal said that immediately after the complaint was filed, the duo were booked for gang rape and murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The SP further highlighted the seriousness of the issue and stated that five police teams have been formed to investigate the case.
