Construction contractor dies after scissor lift falls on him outside Kravis Center in Florida

West Palm Beach police investigators say the deceased man was on the ramp of a flatbed truck attempting to load a 1,500-pound scissor lift onto the truck’s ramp when the scissor lift tipped over on him. Officers at the scene pronounced him dead. “The first arriving officers lifted the scissor lift from the man with some assistance,” said Mike Jachles, West Palm Beach police public information officer. “It appeared to be upright when he rolled it onto the truck. At some point it fell over and landed on him.” Police say the fatal accident occurred just after 9 a.m. on the north side of the Kravis Center. Investigators say the contractor worked at the Kravis Center, but the incident occurred outside the building. Investigators have not yet identified the man, but say he is in his 50s and from Martin County. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed it is also investigating this workplace death. It is currently unclear which contractor the deceased man worked for. West Palm Beach Police investigators say the deceased man was on the ramp of a flatbed truck attempting to load a 1,500-pound scissor lift onto the truck’s ramp when the scissor lift tipped over and struck him. Officers on the scene pronounced him dead.

“The first police officers to arrive, with some assistance, lifted the scissor lift off the man,” said Mike Jachles, spokesman for the West Palm Beach Department. “It appeared to be upright when he pushed it onto the truck. At some point it fell over and landed on top of him.”

The fatal accident occurred on the north side of the Kravis Center shortly after 9 a.m., according to police. Investigators say the contractor was working on the Kravis Center, but the incident occurred outside the building.

Investigators have not yet identified the man, but say he is in his 50s and from Martin County.

The Occupational Safety and Health Authority confirmed that this workplace death is also being investigated.

It is currently unclear which contractor the deceased man worked for.
