Medical problem may have caused accident on Friday evening

A medical issue may have caused a crash that closed the southbound lanes of Highway 65 near Pleasant Hill Friday evening, according to Des Moines police. Emergency responders found an adult male dead in a vehicle in the ditch near the southbound ramp from Highway 5 to Highway 65 around 6:15 p.m. “The preliminary investigation indicates a medical issue occurred before the vehicle left the roadway,” a DMPD news release said. Des Moines police say a medical issue may have been the cause of a crash that closed the southbound lanes of Highway 65 near Pleasant Hill Friday evening.

Emergency crews found a dead adult male in a vehicle in the ditch near the southbound ramp from Highway 5 to Highway 65 at around 6:15 p.m.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that a medical incident occurred before the vehicle left the road,” the DMPD said in a press release.

Authorities have not yet determined the identity of the person found dead.
