Baby found unharmed after car theft in Mott Haven; 53-year-old in custody

A toddler in a minivan stolen in Mott Haven this morning was found safe and sound in Hunts Point, the NYPD said.

According to police, the mother and her six-month-old child were reunited and taken to a hospital for examination.

The stolen gold Chrysler minivan was found at the corner of Oak Point Avenue and Casanova Street. Police had initially said they were looking for a male suspect in his 30s. On Sunday afternoon, they announced that a 53-year-old man was in custody.

Details about the vehicle theft and the person arrested have not yet been released.

Police said the minivan, which had Pennsylvania plates, was stolen near Third Avenue and E. 146 around 11:27 p.m.th Street in Mott Haven.
