Victims of the shooting in Piraeus are linked to arrested Turkish gang boss

(InTime News)

The victims of Friday’s armed attack in front of a supermarket in the port of Piraeus are said to be linked to 29-year-old Turkish gang boss Ramazan B., who was arrested in Athens in May. Ramazan is accused of leading a criminal organization involved in arms and drug trafficking.

23-year-old Samet O., who was seriously injured in the shooting, was said to have been a member of Ramazan’s organization, according to Kathimerini. Turkish media reported that the second person shot dead in Piraeus on Friday was also a gang member and had been looking for a safe home in Greece.

The Greek police arrested Ramazan on May 10 in cooperation with the Turkish secret service MIT and the Greek secret service EYP. There were 14 arrest warrants against him in Turkey, including for premeditated murder and drug offenses.

Friday’s gunman claimed under questioning by Greek police that the attack was due to personal grievances and not gang rivalries. He claimed that a victim had blackmailed his uncle, which led to his uncle’s murder and sparked the retaliatory attack.
