Gordon Ramsay says he is “lucky to be here” after bicycle accident

Gordon Ramsay says he is lucky to still be able to stand and walk after his serious bicycle accident.

The Master Chef The 57-year-old star revealed in an Instagram post on Saturday, June 15, that the accident occurred earlier this week while he was cycling in Connecticut.

Ramsay noted that the incident had “really shaken” him and that he had been taken to hospital for treatment. “Honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” he said.

“I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week,” he added, lifting up his chef’s jacket to reveal his badly bruised ribs. “And I’m getting through it somehow. But I can’t tell you how important it is to wear a helmet.”

In his caption, Ramsay explained that while he had “no broken bones or sustained any major injuries,” he “had a few bruises and looked like a purple potato.”

Ramsay then reiterated that he was “grateful” to have worn a helmet during the accident as it “saved my life”.

“I don’t care how short the ride is. I don’t care that these helmets cost money… they are essential,” he said. “Even on short rides, the kids have to wear a helmet.”

Ramsay ended his video and caption by wishing all families a “great” and “safe” Father’s Day.

The TV chef has been a passionate cyclist for several years and takes part in Ironman races. In 2018, he said according to The Daily Postthat he started these hobbies to “seriously get in shape.”

“The more I train, the more normal I am, the more I feel like I’m the same. It’s just another little reminder of who I really am,” Ramsay said at the time.
