Uttarakhand government suspends CCF and DFO over Binsar fire that kills four

DEHRADUN: Three senior officials of the forestry department had to face the consequences – the Chief Forest Officer (North) and the District Forest Officer of Almora were suspended, while the Chief Forest Officer of Kumaon was transferred to the headquarters – a day after a devastating forest fire in the Binsar Sanctuary left four foresters dead and four others severely burned.On Thursday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered strict action against “negligent” officials.
Kumaon CCF PK Patro has been appointed Chief Forest Officer, Dehradun. Until further notice, the Director of Corbett Tiger Reserve will assume his duties. Koko Rose, Forest Officer, North Kumaon Circle, has been suspended and transferred to the PCCF office in Dehradun.
Divisional Forest Officer Dhruv Singh Martolia has also been suspended and posted to the PCCF office. Deputy Divisional Forest Officer, Nainital Division, Hem Chand Gehtodi has been transferred to Almora and will take over the duties. Chief Minister Dhami expressed deep grief over the loss of life, condoled with the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He said that the state government has given top priority to providing the best possible treatment to the injured and has arranged for their transport to AIIMS, New Delhi by ambulance.
“I have already given clear instructions that any negligence in the discharge of duties will not be tolerated. If there is any negligence in this regard, action will be taken,” Dhami added.
